Dozens of angry parents held a protest march to Oxted School this morning.
The march through the streets culminated in them handing in a 1,339-name petition at the school, demanding that a ballot is held before school governors proceed with foundation/academy proposals.
About 50 people took part in the march, including parent Mike Pipe - who was dressed as the Grim Reaper.
Mr Pipe, who lives in Lingfield and has a daughter in year nine, said: "This is the first protest march I've ever taken part in.
"We want a proper debate and a ballot in the interests of democracy.
"The whole thing feels like it is being rushed through."
Messages on banners included "Hands of Oxted School: Let the Community Decide."
