DETECTIVES investigating a burglary in South Park are hunting a man who reportedly tried to sell stolen jewellery at a pub half a mile away just hours later.
East Surrey CID wants help establishing the route a suspected burglar took following the incident in Stuart Road on Monday.
At around 2pm, the offender entered the house and stole a number of items including jewellery and a Playstation 4.
Following the incident, a witness saw a man described as of stocky build, in his 20s, who was wearing a beige balaclava and a grey Puma hooded top and tracksuit bottoms leaving the address.
He was carrying a chocolate brown bag. The man ran in the direction of Sandcross Lane but then went out of sight of the witness.
Officers made enquiries in the area and a man matching this description was seen that evening trying to sell jewellery in The Beehive pub in Woodhatch.
Investigating officer Geoff Brand said: "The man we suspect of being involved in the burglary was wearing unusual clothing and I would urge anyone who may have seen him to contact officers with information.
"I would like to thank the quick thinking witness to note down as much information as they could and to contact police with information.
"We have made a number of enquires in the local area and one line for investigation is that a man was attempting to sell jewellery in a local pub later that same day. This man may not be connected to the burglary and I urge him to contact police."
