AN IMPROVED Ofsted rating has delighted an Oxted school.
Downs Way School was deemed "good" in its most recent inspection, following a "requires improvement" ranking in its previous report.
The school in Downs Way achieved "good" in all five categories; pupils' behaviour and achievement, leadership, teaching quality and early years provision.
Following their visit in November, inspectors noted pupils make good progress in all subjects and behave well, teaching is interesting and enjoyed, and management have raised expectations of pupils.
Two suggested areas of improvement were more consistent checking by teachers on students' learning, and the school needs a stronger understanding of the range of different cultures in modern Britain.
Head teacher Sarah Lewis said: "I am thrilled that the professionalism the whole team at Downs Way has shown over the past two years, through their commitment to school improvement, has been recognised and celebrated so clearly."
She said she was delighted at the "sheer joy" the children take in their learning.
