BUILDING of the 17th Reigate (St Joseph's) Scout group's new hall has now officially got "out of the ground".
Father Chris Spain, Moderator for the Parish of the Nativity of the Lord, laid the first brick on December 16 at the site off Ladbroke Road in Redhill.
Mike Phillipson, group Scout leader, said: "We are delighted to have finally reached this stage.
"Our young people and adult volunteers have worked tirelessly for almost three years to plan and raise the funding for the first permanent home in the group's history.
"We thank our sponsors and donors – their generosity has been inspiring.
"We are praying for good weather to allow the building to be completed in 2015 to coincide with our centenary – it promises to be quite a birthday party."
The building will have a large hall and a smaller meeting room with kitchen, washrooms and disabled access for use by both the Scout group and community organisations.
The group still needs to raise £10,000 to complete the project.
