Police have appealed for witnesses after a man in his 20s was shot in the chest.
Detectives said the victim suffered a chest wound after being shot, possibly with an air rifle, in Redhill on Tuesday (25) evening.
Reigate and Banstead Inspector Andy Rundle said: "The initial information we received was alarming and we felt the need to warn and inform the public about this incident.
"However, after a number of enquiries we have established a different course of events.
"It is believed the offence occurred in Redhill but not at the Memorial Park which was previously reported.
"I would like to reassure the community that we do not believe there is a risk to members of the public and I hope people continue to use Redhill Memorial Park."
He apologised if the initial information, which went out on social media sites, had caused any alarm.
