MATT FLOWERS says he is looking to pick up where he left off at Oulton Park when he returns to the track at Rockingham this weekend.
The Banstead racer secured three top-ten finishes in the opening round of his second season in the Ginetta GT5 challenge, finishing eighth, ninth and tenth in the three races in Cheshire.
And now, just two weeks on, the 26-year-old is looking to take the momentum forward to this weekend in Northamptonshire as he looks to challenge the top six.
"I am itching to get back out on the track," he said.
"It is good that it has only been two weeks in between and hopefully I can pick up where I left off at Oulton Park.
"I improved as the week went on and if I can take that into this weekend, hopefully I will get some better results."
Flowers added that qualifying will be key to his chances for the weekend, having last time qualified 13th and given himself a mountain to climb at Oulton Park.
"The difference between the top six isn't massive, but qualifying down in 13th it gives you a lot to do, especially if the first lap doesn't go well," he explained.
"I wasn't really at one with the car that day as I hadn't had much chance to get out on track, but hopefully this time I will be able to put together a few laps and be ready for qualifying."
Meanwhile, Flowers says he has good memories of Rockingham, having finished in his highest position of fifth there last season.
And he says he would love to repeat that achievement this time around.
"I enjoy it there, although not everyone does," he said.
"Last year it was probably my strongest track and considering I had just come back from an accident, that was good.
"I know my way around the track and hopefully that will help me push towards the top six.
"They [top six] had a bit of an edge over the rest of us in the first round, but it will be progress for me if I can challenge the top six at Rockingham and that will be the aim."
