Smash-and-grab raiders strike at Banstead store

TWO men smashed their way through the front of a Banstead store last night, making off with almost £2,000 from the tills. The two people were seen forcing the front door of Marks & Spencer in Banstead High Street just before 10pm last night. The men then prised open six tills inside the store and escaped with just under £2,000 in cash before making off from the scene in a dark-coloured 4x4. Investigating officer PC Daniel McLeod, said: "I would appeal to anyone in the area around the time of the offence to contact officers if they have information which may assist us with this investigation. "We received a couple of calls following this incident and have managed to put together suspect descriptions therefore I would urge anyone who has their suspicions around someone they know to make contact." One of the offenders is described as of medium build and wearing a dark-coloured jacket, light grey tracksuit trousers and white gloves. A second offender is described as of medium build and wearing a grey hooded top, light grey tracksuit bottoms and black gloves. An initial investigation was carried out overnight at the scene and in the local area by detectives and response officers. CID and local officers from the Reigate and Banstead Safer Neighbourhood Team continue to make enquiries.
