A 24-HOUR football match raised nearly £4,000 for a charity that educates disadvantaged girls in Peru.
More than 60 students at St John's School, in Leatherhead, played continuous five-a-side football from 6.02pm to the same time the following day, with rolling substitutes keeping ten players on the pitch at all times.
The idea for the event came from student Tom Dudgeon, who wanted to raise money for the Chichaswasi Charity, after visiting Peru in the summer of 2011.
School spokeswoman Sally Hunt said: "To begin with, accurate scoring was kept, but by 1.30am and with more than 400 goals scored, the scorer gave up.
"As you would expect, Tom was there playing football all through the middle of the night.
"Special mentions should go to Henry Eames, Finn Hardy, James Rendell and Tomiwi Adeboya, who were ever-present at Tom's side during the harder parts of the challenge.
"But there are many others who could be mentioned for the commitment they demonstrated in supporting Tom and his cause."
Each student raised a minimum of £30 of sponsorship for the event on November 24 and 25, and Tom agreed that half of the funds raised will also go to this year's school charity.
