AN AWARD-WINNING fresh produce shop has opened a new stall at Denbies Wine Estate.
Village Greens Farm Shop, based in Coles Road, Ockley, sells a range of local, organic and fairtrade food and drink.
The business, owned by husband and wife team James and Catherine Dampier, now has a second outlet following a successful year.
Mr Dampier said: "Our ethos is local, natural, ethical; and thankfully for us that is something that people in Mole Valley really buy into.
"A new store in Denbies is a great move for us as it opens us up to a completely new concentration of customer, namely those in the Dorking area and hopefully those further north.
"We try and support local producers and source locally wherever we can. We are constantly amazed how many local producers there are. There are more springing up all the time.
"We have got local cheese-makers, local chocolate-makers, local ice cream; we have got a huge variety of local produce."
As well as selling fruit and vegetables grown on a patch at Denbies, the stall will also sell meat, bread, cakes and alcohol, mostly from local producers, and cards, arts and crafts by local artists.
The store's ethos helped it win the Countryside Alliance award for Best Local Food Retailer in 2008.
"We have been very much embraced by the local community," said Mr Dampier. "I definitely think that has played a huge part in our success.
"We have developed our range and we have discovered many local producers have cropped up."
The store will remain open throughout the Christmas season before closing in January for refurbishments.
