POLICE are cracking down on illegal parking close to junctions with the A217.
Complaints from residents in the Banstead area have spurred the police response. Officers will now be monitoring parking along the main arterial road over coming weeks.
The stretch of the A217 between Garratts Lane and Chipstead Road has been highlighted as a particular concern, with cars parking too close to the junctions of Diceland Road, Ferndale Road and Lyme Regis Road making life difficult and dangerous for drivers.
The A217 from the northern end of the Mad Mile in Banstead to the junction with Margery Lane, Lower Kingswood, is designated a clearway – meaning it is illegal for vehicles to be parked close to any of the junctions.
Police spokeswoman Dawn Groom said: "This issue has been raised as a community and safety concern. Surrey Police will be actively monitoring the locations and taking appropriate action on any vehicles contravening the order."
Under the order no-one should be parked within 17 yards of the A217 junction with Garratts Lane or within 13 yards of the A217 junction with Diceland Road. On Ferndale Road there is no parking within nine yards of the A217 and on Lyme Regis Road no-one should stop within 20 yards of the A217 junction.
