THE NEWLY elected Mayor of Elmbridge, Councillor Mike Bennison, held his charity launch on May 16.Following his election at the Annual Meeting of the Council on Wednesday May 15,
Councillor Bennison has chosen to support Riding for the Disabled Leatherhead and Horsley & Bookham Groups. during his Mayoral Year.
Councillor Bennison and his wife Mrs Mary Bennison were inspired by last year's Paralympics and hope to be able to continue the spirit and legacy of the games. The launch was held at Wyvenhoe stables in Bookham, the stables from which both groups operate.
The Mayor said: "I am pleased to launch my Charity Appeal on behalf of Riding for the Disabled Leatherhead and Horsley & Bookham Groups which include riders from Elmbridge.
"One of the aims of the fundraising for my Mayoral Year is the provision of a dedicated learning centre for use by the children while at the stables which will negate the need to wait for their riding sessions on a cold bus"
"Riding for the Disabled aims to provide people with disabilities the chance to ride in order to benefit their health and well-being.
"Riding helps with physical development as the rhythmic movement of the horse strengthens muscles, and improves balance and co-ordination.
"In addition riders learn new skills, achieve goals, improve their communication and gain confidence. Just being with the horses puts smiles on their faces."
