BOTH of Dorking's senior football clubs face an anxious wait to find out what division they will be playing in next season.
Dorking and Dorking Wanderers have both finished in relegation places in their respective leagues, with the Chicks finishing bottom of the Combined Counties League Premier Division and Wanderers finishing third from bottom in the Sussex County League Division One.
However, neither side is sure where their future lies, with decisions over promotions and relegations from the leagues still to be made, with the futures of a couple of clubs in the league also unclear.
As such, one or both of Dorking's clubs could yet be granted a reprieve from relegation.
But Dorking boss Glynn Stephens says he is making preparations for next season already, regardless of what division his side ends up plying its trade in.
He said: "We know there are off the field issues here that have to be better and hopefully we can get them sorted.
"We are looking to try and make improvements at our ground and there is some extremely hard work ahead."
Stephens said that on the pitch, he felt the work of the management and players at the club in recent weeks had been "exceptional", although he said that ultimately it had not been enough.
He said: "We have done all we can and to be fair, what we have done has been exceptional, but we have come up short and we have to accept that.
"All along our target was to finish as high up the league as possible and when we knew we would be in the bottom three, the aim was to finish as high up that as possible to give us the best possible chance of a reprieve.
"Unfortunately we haven't done that and we can't change that now.
"No one wants to suffer that fate, but we just have to wait and see.
"If we do end up playing in the division below, we will just have to get on with it."
Stephens says, however, that he is encouraged by the attitude of his players, with several having already said to him that they will stay with the club regardless of what division they play in.
Meanwhile, Wanderers boss Marc White is holding on to the hope that his side may yet be given a reprieve.
Wanderers finished third from bottom owing to a surprise win for Chichester City against champions Peacehaven & Telscombe on Monday, but White said that does not necessarily mean they will be going down after just one year in Sussex County League Division One.
He said: "It's up to the obligatory grading issues and promotion and relegation conundrums.
"It will depend on the teams coming up from Division Two and the ground grading but also depending on how many teams they decide to have.
"We just don't know if it's going to be one, two or three teams relegated. We're hopeful of a reprieve."
Meetings are likely to take place soon, with the two clubs set to learn their fate in the coming weeks.
