A NEW outdoor amphitheatre will provide a space for learning and performances at a Leatherhead school.
The facility at St Peter's Catholic Primary School in Grange Road was devised and funded by the Friends of St Peter's parent association.
And on Saturday Mole Valley District Council leader Chris Townsend opened the amphitheatre, which will be used to host outdoor science and geography lessons, as well as providing the school with an al-fresco venue.
Deputy head teacher Jacqui Shabankareh said: "The school has got an amazing, beautiful, big field so the idea was to have an outdoor learning space which can be used in a variety of ways.
"Because of the shape of the amphitheatre it's perfect for teaching sessions but it can also be used for performances as well."
Fundraising took place throughout last year and work started at the beginning of this term.
Mrs Shabankareh said: "We have had groups out there already this term but with the weather is as it is at the moment staff are planning how to make best use of it in the spring."
