CHIPSTEAD scored a vital win against Sittingbourne this afternoon (Saturday) to move away from danger in the Ryman League Division One South.
The Chips won 1-0 at High Road to boost their chances of avoiding being caught up in the relegation scrap.
A poor run of form, which had seen the Chips pick up just 11 points from a possible 39 so far in 2013 prior to today's fixture, meant Chipstead were in danger of being caught up in the battle at the bottom.
But a single goal from Kyle Green was enough to earn John Hamsher's men a vital three points today, which moves them on to 40 points, and up four places to 14th in the table – six points above bottom side Walton Casuals.
Elsewhere, Merstham slipped to a 1-0 defeat at struggling Horsham, with the Moatsiders dropping one place to 13th in the division.
In the Combined Counties League Premier Division, Horley Town were held to a 1-1 draw at home against Windsor.
Meanwhile, in the Sussex County League Division One, Redhill picked up an important three points at Selsey, winning 2-0 courtesy of goals from Chris Gregson and Gavin Gordon.
The Reds' joy was added to by seeing rivals East Preston fall to a surprise 3-1 defeat at home to Dorking Wanderers and seeing Rye United and Pagham share the points in a 1-1 draw, although promotion rivals Peacehaven & Telscombe won 6-1 against bottom side Worthing United to consolidate their position as league leaders.
Lingfield were also victorious in the same division, thrashing Shoreham 6-2 at Godstone Road to move up one place, dislodging local rivals East Grinstead Town from eighth place.
Nicky Forster grabbed a hat-trick for Dixie Dean's side, with Glen Boosey, Craig Pitterson and Daryl Coleman also on target for the hosts.
