FIREFIGHTERS are treating two fires last night, in Redhill and Newchapel, as potential arson.
Both fires were in rural locations, and both were in areas linked to model aircraft use.
A barn thought to have contained model aeroplanes was razed to the ground after it is believed to have been deliberately set on fire.
Firefighters from Godstone, Lingfield and East Grinstead were scrambled to a field off the A22/Newchapel Road, near Newchapel, shortly after 8pm on Friday.
Crews had difficulty reaching the fire, and had to use two 4x4 vehicles to tackle the blaze.
The barn was engulfed by flames and could not be saved.
At 11.30pm, two fire engines from Reigate were called to a field used by remote-controlled helicopter enthusiasts, off Cormongers Lane near Redhill.
A large amount of wooden pallets, which firefighters believed could have formed a temporary structure, was alight and flames spread to undergrowth.
Surrey Police confirmed they were aware of both fires, but said they were not yet investigating either of them.
