PEOPLE awoke this morning (Friday) to see snow lying on the Surrey hills at Reigate, Banstead, Kingswood, Warlingham and Caterham, despite the calendar saying it was April 5.
The unseasonable weather continued this morning with a few more wintry showers but at least the temperature climbed to 5c.
Stallholders at Redhill Market continued trading, wrapped up against the cruel easterly wind.
One hairdresser, from Silvano's, The Arcade, Redhill, said his hands were so cold yesterday after carrying home bags of shopping from Sainsbury's that he was unable to turn the key in his front door and had to wait several minutes until they thawed out.
Most of the snow had melted by mid-afternoon but the promised sunshine failed to materialise.
