A NEW roof and ward upgrades are among the improvements to be installed at Epsom Hospital as part of a £9 million refurbishment.
Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust will fund the renovation through its annual capital development programme, with thousands being spent on a range of life-saving equipment.
Other refurbishments include £450,000 on general ward upgrades, including the Buckley ward kitchen at Epsom Hospital and £100,000 on improving the system of piping gases to patients.
More than £250,000 will be spent on creating additional single rooms for patients at Epsom and St Helier, with the latter receiving £1.1 million for general maintenance across its facilities.
Karen Breen, the Trust's deputy chief executive said: "We are really pleased to announce our new capital development programme, and know that all our patients, visitors, staff and volunteers will soon be feeling the benefit.
"As an organisation, it is our absolute priority to give each and every one of our patients the very best of care in a warm and welcoming environment, and ensuring that our hospitals are clean, safe and stocked with up-to-date equipment is absolutely key to that commitment.
A large portion of the investment will be spent on new, modern equipment to stock wards and outpatient clinics, including £400,000 on new electric beds and £200,000 on defibrillators.
