A WOMAN who cared for her paralysed father as a teenager has organised an event to let carers know about the support available to them.

Jacqui Kershaw, 50, has organised the Carers Roadshow event at St George's Christian Centre in Barnett Wood Lane today (Thursday).

"Years ago, when I was a teenager, I cared for my dear Dad when he broke his neck in an accident and became paralysed," said the 50-year-old, who is assistant to the director of pastoral care for the parish of Ashtead.

"There was just no help out there, when it came to day-to-day care and knowing where to turn for guidance and support.

"Things have certainly improved now, but there is still more that can be done."

Ten groups, including Macmillan Trust, Surrey County Social Services and Action for Carers, Alzheimer's Society, and Mid Surrey Dementia Care Trust, are expected to have information stands at the roadshow.

Ms Kershaw continued: "I see the roadshow as a sign-posting event, where people can get information from groups involved in care-giving and help."

Everyone is welcome to attend the Carers Roadshow between 2pm and 4pm.

"We're expecting about 10 groups to set up information stands."
