Inventive cake designer Yve McCLean scooped a top award in the Oscars of the cake-making world.

She launched her own business, Little Ditty Cake Design, having previously worked as a holiday rep.

Natty Knitters have helped p-p-p-perk up penguins caught in oil slicks by making them woolly jumpers

Staff and customers of Knight's of Reigate knitted 21 tiny pullovers and sent them to the Penguin Foundation, in Phillip Island, Australia.

"When I tell people I am knitting for penguins, some of them look at me like I'm mad," she added.

It was the end of an era with the demolition of Liquid and Envy, Redhill's former nightclub, to make way for dozens of apartments.

The building opened as an Art Deco-style cinema in 1938 before becoming a nightclub in the 1975.

But it finally shut in 2011.

Anita Morris, of Colman Way, Redhill, who met her partner of 22 years in the nightclub, said she was sad to see the iconic building being knocked down.

Two cyclists suffered serious injuries in the annual London-to-Brighton charity bike ride.

A rider in his 30s smashed into a telegraph pole in Rocky Lane, Gatton Park, and a female cyclist suffered head injuries after crashing in Rookery Hill, Outwood.

Lin Wilson, of Rookery Hill, said: "I heard the sirens and a lot of noise outside.

"I was told there was a terrible accident at the bottom of the hill."

Redhill's answer to Banksy struck again – spray painting a massive image on a house behind the High Street.

Known as Uncle Stubble – real name Tim Stiling – he said: "I don't plan on doing anything illegal.

"People are happy for me to paint in places so I don't have to do it secretly."
