REDHILL manager Mike Maher believes his players did the club proud in Guernsey on Saturday, but is still adamant the fixture should never have been arranged for over the festive period.
Many Lobsters players were unavailable due to the long trip just two days after Christmas while those who did travel had to get up at 4am to make a flight to the Channel Islands for the Ryman League match.
And while Maher was pleased with how his team played under the circumstances during the 3-1 defeat, he believes the situation was "ridiculous".
"I was very proud of the boys at Guernsey," he said. "We battered them for 45 minutes but we just didn't get the rub of the green. We missed two penalties, two sitters and had balls cleared off the line; it just wasn't our day.
"It was ridiculous to have to go out there but we took the strongest team we could. We went a goal behind but we went for it because certainly weren't going to have a 15 or 16 hour day not to give it a go.
"The whole idea of going to Guernsey at this time of year doesn't make sense and then I can't believe they have been allowed to reschedule their New Year's Day game.
"It's done now but there were a few things that left a bitter taste in the mouth and I can certainly say we will be looking forward to welcoming them to Kiln Brow."
