LIVERPOOL have emerged as surprise contenders in the race to sign former Chelsea midfielder Kevin De Bruyne, but cash-rich Manchester City remain favourites.
It is thought it may take as much as £30-million to convince VfL Wolfsburg to part with the 23-year-old, but rumours from Germany suggest under-fire Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers may be willing to splash the cash.
Manuel Pellegrini is thought to be waiting until the summer before making a move, but it is rumoured that underpressure Rodgers may beat City to the midfielder by making January enquiries.
