A REPLACEMENT tree has been planted for a 200-year-old oak wrecked by storms.
The tree at the King George V playing field in Mill Lane, Hurst Green, was damaged beyond repair and had to be felled.
Members of Holland Sports Club, based in Mill Lane, launched an Oak Aid appeal to raise money for a new oak tree.
Tandridge District Council pledged to contribute half of the £2,246 cost of replanting the tree, while the community set about raising the rest.
The money was raised at events such as a gig night, a cricket match, a photo fundraiser by Holland Sports Football Team and donations from the likes of Chartford Trees, H20 plumbing and developers Taylor Wimpey.
Among those who attended the planting ceremony last Wednesday were Oak Aid organiser Bob Matthews and Holland Sports Club chairman Dave Stone.
