SAINSBURY'S is likely to open a store in Tadworth, despite villagers' opposition.
Planning officers at Reigate and Banstead Borough Council have recommended approving the supermarket's application to convert the Mini dealership in The Avenue to a convenience store.
The final decision will be made by councillors tonight (Wednesday).
Residents are concerned about the impact the store would have on nearby trade, parking provision and noise from deliveries.
But in a report to the planning committee, officers said: "It is considered that the proposal's impact would not be such so as to result in harm as to justify refusal."
Sainsbury's wants to convert the existing showroom to a supermarket, while demolishing an outbuilding on the same site which would be leased to another company, possibly a mechanic's.
There would also be 14 car parking spaces created on the site.
The report added: "It is not considered that the activities generated by a retail outlet, given it being set apart from residential properties and modest size, would have an undue impact on the living conditions of neighbouring dwellings."
