TWITTER reached new levels of excitement this morning (Friday) after Her Majesty the Queen sent her first tweet.
Quite fittingly, the monarch sent the message during her visit to the Science Museum to open the Information Age exhibition, which celebrates more than 200 years of innovation in communication and information technologies.
She signed it Elizabeth R.
The @BritishMonarch account, which has 725,000 followers, then followed up with a picture of the Queen typing it out on an iPad.
It is a pleasure to open the Information Age exhibition today at the @ScienceMuseum and I hope people will enjoy visiting. Elizabeth R.

The messages have already been retweeted thousands of times, and fellow Twitter users were quick to joke about what Elizabeth II would tweet next.
Disappointed that the Queen's first tweet wasn't a picture of herself. Or a 'onesie' as she calls them.

You realise that all the Queen's tweets from now on are just going to be 'Hello, what do you do?' over and over again, right?
