South Park secured a second round home tie against Sutton United in the Surrey Senior Cup thanks to a 2-1 victory over Guildford City last night (Tuesday).
Park opened the scoring in the 15th minute when David Smith picked out the unmarked Jack Higgins to side foot home from eight yards. Guildford were lucky not to be reduced to ten men when Joseph kicked out at Joe Jackson and was only shown the yellow card.
Park doubled their lead in the 52nd minute when David Smith scored from the spot after Jack Watts had been bundled over in the box.
Guildford created a number of chances and Park were grateful for skipper Dan Guscott who twice cleared off the line. Guildford pulled a goal back in the 87th minute through Carlton Murray-Price.
Park were not at their best in this encounter and on another day with better finishing Guildford City could have taken the game to extra time.
Park return to Ryman League Division One South action on Saturday when they host East Grinstead Town.
