LOVE shouldn't hurt. That's the message Reigate and Banstead Borough Council is promoting in support of a Surrey-wide domestic abuse campaign running this week.
Domestic abuse, it says, can take many forms including physical and sexual assault, emotional bullying and manipulation, verbal abuse or financial restriction.
The council points out support is available to victims. They can call the 24-hour helpline on 01483 776822, contact outreach services via www.surreyagainstda.info or even report it to the police.
Cllr James Durrant, executive member for licensing and enforcement, said: "If you or anyone you know is affected by domestic abuse, please don't suffer in silence. Confidential support and advice is available from trained advisors.
"Please help us spread the word that no one should have to tolerate being controlled by their partner."
