A WOMAN was rescued from her flat yesterday evening (Tuesday) after she left her cooking on the hob.

Firefighters from Reigate and Horley stations forced their way into the property through the balcony windows of the 56-year-old's Bellingham Drive home.

The alarm was raised at 7pm last night when the woman was reported to be "unresponsive" in her smoke-logged flat.

A Reigate fireman said: "The lady was rescued from the property and given oxygen. She regained consciousness but suffered from the effects of smoke inhalation."

He added: "She left some cooking on the hob which burnt dry and smoke filled the property. We're not quite sure what under-lying reasons were why she did not respond to it."

Firefighters spent just under two hours at the scene.
