Residents in Waverley are advised to be vigilant with their home security following a series of burglaries in the area over the past month.

A number of crimes in Farnham, Wrecclesham and Hale have involved offenders using a number of methods to get into people's homes such as drilling locks and using tools to force entry.

Waverley Crime Reduction Officer John Robini advises that householders take note of the following security tips to help prevent themselves becoming a victim of crime.

He said: "When leaving your house during the day, make sure all doors and windows are closed and locked. Fit and use an alarm system - the average cost for an audible alarm is about £600".

"If you have jewellery or other small items of value then fit a safe and photograph them. There are also many ways of marking property nowadays, including an ultra violet pen marking the postcode, or using a DNA based water that is unique to your property".

"Leave a radio on during your absence and ask a neighbour to remove any parcels. If there is a Neighbourhood Watch in your road then join it and if not then consider starting one."

A number of offences have taken place recently, with a house in the Farnborough Road area being targeted on Tuesday 26th February. The offenders forced a door and managed to steal cash and a laptop as well as causing £500 worth of damage.

Offenders tried to gain access to a property in Farnham by drilling a door lock. When this failed they forced their way into a kitchen window and stole a £900 watch and caused £200 worth of damage.

Anyone who has any information about these incidents, or any of the other burglaries that have occurred across the borough, is asked to call Surrey Police on 101.

Alternatively the independent charity Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111. Information about home security is available from the local Waverley Safer Neighbourhood Team.
