The Reigate Priory second team emulated the firsts on Saturday by lifting the Surrey Championship second XI Premier Division after beating Normandy by 89 runs. Winning the toss, Jonathan Gale had no hesitation in batting first on a pitch which has historically been hard to chase on.
Contributions from Fraser Macdonald (29) and Will Irving (27) supported the main scorers, David Ramsden (54 not out) and James Halton (48). Rich Stevens explosive 23 off 15 balls at the end of the innings helped the Llamas to 223 for 6 off 50 overs.
The Llamas were confident with their strongest bowling line up of the season that they could defend 224, and so it was. Rich Stevens was the most economical, with 2 for 21 off his 10, and with two wickets apiece for Nick Harmer and Chris Wigley, the writing was on the wall as Normandy were restricted to 134 for 9 from their full allocation. The victory saw celebrations mirroring those of the 1st XI, having last won their league in 2005 under the leadership of Steve Gibson.
Eight records were broken in the 3rd XI's demolition of Spencer. First, Toby Briggs set the record for the fastest ever half century, in just 12 balls. Second, Jonathan Smith overtook Mark Cameron's 128 for the highest ever individual score. Third, Toby Briggs set the record for the fastest ever century, in 28 balls. Fourth, just before Smith was run out for a record score of 134, Smith and Toby Briggs set a new record 4th wicket partnership of 173, just one run short of the record partnership for any wicket in the 3rd XI. Fifth Toby Briggs overtook Jonathan Smith's short-lived record l, to set the highest ever individual score of a 3rd XI batsman, finishing on 145 not out from 39 balls. Sixth, Toby Briggs hit a record 17 sixes in his innings. Seventh, the 3rd XI made their highest ever total of 412-4 off 50 overs.
In reply, Spencer managed a respectable 192 all out in 45.1 overs to lose by 220 runs, which is the record winning margin for the Priory 3rd XI, and the eighth record of the match.
The 4th XI (Surrey Cricket League) lost a close match by 3 wickets against Surrey Seamers A. Andy Hook (45) and Peter Friend (50 not out) were the main run scorers as the Llamas were bowled out in the final over of their innings for 228. The Llamas bowling had the Seamers on 141 for 6 and 192 for 7, and with 42 overs needed off 7 overs, the Llamas were the favourites. Number nine batsman Kisho Patel had other ideas, as he smashed four 6s to le8 fad the Seamers to victory with 20 balls remaining.
Ben Donovan's 91 not out helped the 4th XI (Surrey Championship) to 178 for 5 in their 45 overs, with James Dodsworth scoring 34 in a 114 run partnership for the fifth wicket. Spencer's target was reduced to 145 off 32 overs, and despite being in control for the majority of the innings, but another number 9 ruined the Llamas' Day with 31 runs to lead them home.
