THE long-awaited new canteen block at Caterham's de Stafford School is finally taking shape.
Plans to replace the old dilapidated canteen were first talked of a decade ago.
The £1.5 million replacement block, which was given Surrey County Council's financial go-ahead in February, is due for completion in October.
Head teacher Jeremy Garner said: "The canteen is making amazing progress.
"This is perfectly illustrated by the outer structure recently having been constructed in what seems a blink of an eye.
"There is still plenty of work to go but the reality of the build is very much in the minds of the staff and students.
"Anticipation is quietly building."
