AFTER one of the worst months in the club's history, Old Reigatian brought the fun back to Park Lane with their annual summer sevens touch-rugby tournament.

Arsonists targeted the Old Reigatian clubhouse twice in two weeks during June and July, causing thousands of pounds of damage, but the rugby club are determined to ensure the show goes on and raised more than £1,000 during Saturday's event.

With the non-contact form of the sport opening the competition to all, eight teams of children, women and men took part in the tournament.

However, it was Team Snappy who were eventually victorious, proving they took their rugby seriously even if the same could not be said for their outfits.

"In every game, one member of Team Snappy was dressed as a crocodile," Old Reigatian club captain Ed Bartlett explained.

"They beat Angelos' Bag 3-2 in the final thanks to a sudden-death try.

"We had eight teams take part, all from within the club, with children from six or seven, right up to 50 year olds and also women.

"It was fantastic weather and we had quite a lot of people come down to watch and enjoy the barbecue and bar.

"We raised a good amount of money, probably more than £1,000 profit on the day and it was also good to see some new faces come to the club and hopefully they will be back."
