A DIGGER, a tractor and two crushing machines were damaged in a suspected arson attack in Newchapel.

Surrey Police is investigating the incident which took place at around 12.30am on Friday in Stubpond Lane.

The two conveyor belt crushing machines also had a number of their wires cut.

Investigating officer, Detective Constable Eloise Lock, said: "These fires have caused a considerable amount of damage which cannot be overlooked.

"I would urge anyone who has any information about how this might have happened to get in touch. As it happened in the early hours of the morning and in a rural location I would hope that the presence of anybody nearby would be flagged up as suspicious.

"If you know of anybody who may have gone out late at night and returned home in the early hours, possibly smelling of smoke or accelerants, then please let us know."
