The man who approached a 10-year-old girl in Horley last week had a 'legitimate' reason to do so, according to Surrey Police.
The incident occurred last Wednesday in Jennings Way and was subsequently reported on social media.
As reported by the Mirror last week, the approach led officers to step up their patrols in the area.
But a spokesperson for Surrey Police said: "Officers have since been contacted by the man involved in this incident and are satisfied he had a legitimate reason for being there. As a result no further action is being taken."
Reigate and Banstead Safer Neighbourhood Team Inspector Andy Rundle said: "We understand that this incident caused significant concern locally, but I would like to reassure the community that this appears to be a misunderstanding with the man in question looking for an address in the area."
