A LOVING SON suspended his dignity – and masculinity – for a very worthy cause.
Although he was dreading it, Billy Veitch dressed as woman for a whole weekend, after his fiancee threw down the challenge.
It started with him undergoing the excruciatingly painful experience of having his legs and chest waxed, and that was followed by a spray tan.
His cross-dressing weekend saw him shopping alone in Tesco, taking a train to Brighton and then presenting a drum and bass gig in Brighton, all decked out, from head to high heels, as a woman.
The challenge culminated in the 26-year-old doing a spot of karaoke at a Beckenham pub – when, understandably, I'm Every Woman was his song of choice.
The gruelling experience, from June 6 to 8, raised £1,300 for Myeloma UK.
Mr Veitch, of Radstock Way, Merstham, admitted he felt totally out of his comfort zone – "like running a marathon blindfolded with my legs tied together," he explained.
He said afterwards: "I'm glad I took on the challenge but I must be honest, it was a relief when it was over. Probably the worst bit was the abuse I got on the train to Brighton, which I had to just take on the chin.
"But my fiancee was proud of me and I raised lots of money for a great cause."
Mr Veitch also arranged a charity football match in April, when his team of Drum & Bass All Stars took on Whyteleafe FC.
His mother Bernie, 47, of Wontford Road, Purley, has multiple myeloma, a cancer which attacks the white blood cells.
She said: "I'm so proud of Billy for what he has done on my behalf.
"My condition has brought the whole family closer together."
