A MAN and woman, arrested in connection with the death of a young girl, have been bailed.
Police launched a murder investigation on Friday after a one-year-old girl from Egham died in St George's Hospital.
Officers had been alerted by staff at St Peter's Hospital in Chertsey, where the girl was first admitted with serious injuries on Wednesday (May 28). She was later transferred to St George's but died on Thursday.
A 24-year-old woman and 35-year-old man were arrested in connection with the death and have been released on bail, pending further enquiries, until Thursday (June 5).
Detective Chief Inspector Mark Preston, from the Surrey and Sussex Major Crime Team, said: "The death of such a young child is extremely tragic and officers are currently carrying out a full and thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the injuries she sustained."
A post mortem is due to take place to ascertain the cause of the girl's death.
