PARENTS of primary school pupils were shocked to learn last week the head teacher had stood down.
Salfords Primary School notified parents by a letter on Friday, to say head Georgina Beaven had left.
The letter, from chairman of governors Chris Botten, said: "After much thought, Mrs Beaven has decided to pursue opportunities elsewhere, and has stood down from her position as head teacher of Salfords school."
The letter continues: "I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mrs Beaven for the time and effort she has invested in developing the children and this school. She has dedicated herself tirelessly to Salfords and previously to other Surrey schools and I would like to acknowledge the contribution she has made to the education of many children.
"For this I would like to convey my utmost appreciation, and that of my fellow governors."
In the letter, Mr Botten says Mrs E Whincop has "agreed to be appointed as a long-term interim head teacher".
He added: "Mrs Whincop is a very experienced head teacher with outstanding Ofsted reports, who will join us on a part-time basis in April, due to previous commitments, and will continue on a full time basis from June.
Mrs Whincop is already working with the acting deputy head, Miss Taylor, and myself and colleagues to plan for the new term."
The Mirror reported in March how parents had contacted the paper, concerned a Year 1 class at the Copsleigh Avenue school had had four different teachers in two terms.
This recent announcement has generated further alarm.
A father of one pupil, who asked not to be named, said: "The school's in chaos. Again, there's no stability.
"She's left without anyone knowing she was going. We are left in limbo.
"They [head teachers] are very important. They are running the whole school, if there's a concern and a problem with a child, then they are our point of contact."
Surrey County Council said staffing at schools was the decision of school governors.
Salfords Primary School declined to comment.
