THE Redhill war memorial could be spruced up by a new project.
A four-year scheme to clean up the county's war memorials has been launched as a joint venture between the Surrey Police and Crime Commission and the Surrey and Sussex Probation Service.
This week it was announced a grant of £70,000 has been given to the scheme by the deputy chief of Surrey's Police and Crime Commission, Jeff Harris.
Surrey County Council's civilian-military liaison adviser Canon Peter Bruinvels now wants residents to give recommendations of which memorials are most in need.
Mr Bruinvels, who is deputy chairman of the Respect and Remember committee, said: "It is an exciting project to be working on and will be great for communities.
"We do need residents to get in touch and tell us the areas that need to be focussed on.
"Our hope, because the £70,000 won't last forever, is that people will become more involved in the clean up and would be willing to donate as well."
In February, Mr Bruinvels told the Mirror plans were in place for criminal offenders to carry out the clean ups.
He added: "But we are also hopefully it will be a learning curve for them as we will encourage them to carry out research projects on the names on the memorials."
Residents who would like to recommend a Surrey war memorial to be cleaned up, should call Mr Harris on 01483 630200.
