A NEW £2m care home for people with learning disabilities has opened in Caterham.
Oakwood is at the heart of the under-construction 161-home Oakgrove housing development off Coulsdon Road.
It will provide accommodation and nursing for seven people who have autism spectrum conditions.
Opened by Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, it includes individual bedrooms and an activity room with a Smart Table – a touchscreen table top which allows several people to play games at the same time.
Trust chief executive Fiona Edwards, said: "Oakwood is one of the best examples of how care home services of this kind could and should be.
"This new service will have a positive impact on the lives of people who will live and work here."
Councillor Beverley Connolly, chairman of Tandridge District Council, opened the new unit on March 25.
