SOUTH Park overcame a resilient Wembley side last night (Tuesday) with second half goals from stand-in skipper Kieran Lavery and Dale Burgess to move closer to claiming the Combined Counties League Premier Division title.
Despite dominating possession for long periods of the first half, Park struggled to create many clear cut chances.
Chris Smith shot over the bar and Nathan Miles headed over from a left wing corner with the best chances in the first half.
Park broke the deadlock in the 59th minute when Jack Macleod's corner was flicked in at the near post by Kieran Lavery.
Four minutes later the lead was doubled as Lavery powered through a couple of challenges and played the ball to Burgess whose shot beat the keeper at the near post from 16 yards.
This victory, together with Epsom & Ewell's 1-0 home defeat to Cove, means that should South Park defeat closest rivals Camberley Town on Saturday, the Whitehall Lane side will be crowned champions with four matches still to play.
