THOUSANDS of schoolchildren across East Surrey will have a day off tomorrow as teachers go out on strike.
Pupils at a dozen schools in Tandridge, nine in Reigate and Banstead and five in Mole Valley will stay home tomorrow (Wednesday).
A handful of schools are closed completely, while many others are closed to a significant number of students, such as de Stafford School in Caterham, which is closed for all children in Years 7 to 10.
The National Union of Teachers (NUT) has called a one-day national strike in an ongoing campaign on pay, pensions and workloads.
Fred Greaves, division secretary of the Surrey NUT said: "The strike has been called because, despite numerous opportunities, [Education Secretary] Michael Gove has refused to talk seriously to teacher unions and negotiate over our concerns.
"There will be events in London but there is also a march in Guildford in the morning of Thursday.
"I expect there to be a significant impact, regrettably, on schools all over Surrey." Full list of closures (all are partial closures unless specified):
