A MAN has been sentenced after pleading guilty to stabbing another man in Merstham.
Alan Barlow, 40, of Barfield Park in Lancing was due to stand trial for the assault on Monday at Guildford Crown Court but changed his plea to guilty on the first day.
He was sentenced to three years and two months in jail for the attack, which took place in Nailsworth Crescent, Merstham, in October last year.
Investigating officer Detective Constable Sarah Jupp, said: "I welcome the guilty plea entered by Barlow which will now prevent the victim of this assault reliving their ordeal in court and allow them to move on with their lives following the assault."
At about 10.30pm on October 24, officers were called to the scene where Barlow had stabbed Patrick Kilcoyne in the stomach.
Mr Kilcoyne was subsequently rushed to St George's Hospital, Tooting, for treatment and has subsequently made a full recovery.
Two men were arrested a short time later; Barlow was charged and the other, a man in his 50s, was released with no further action being taken against him.
