UPDATE: February 26th 2014.
THERE is an improving picture in the flooded communities along the River Thames in Surrey and Middlesex this morning.
Pooley Green Road, Egham, has been re-opened between the B388 Vicarage Road junction and the B3376 Thorpe Lea Road junction. However, Sheepwalk, Egham, remains closed.
Most other roads previously shut due to extensive flooding are now open.
Riverbridge Primary School, Staines, is open with restrictions after a very eventful few weeks recently. On Sunday morning, February 16th, the 3rd Battalion of the Princess of Wales Royal Regiment arrived at Knowle Green to build sandbag defences to try to stop flooding entering the school building, but despite their best efforts, many problems with floodwater occurred around the site.
At Walton on Thames, the river level is now within the "typical" range, at 3.32m this morning (Wednesday). The level has dropped a further 2cm (almost an inch) in the past 24 hours. At Kingston, the level is quite high but now within the "typical" range. The 7am measurement at Kingston was 4.57m. The "typical" range is between 3.5m and 5m.
There is still an Environment Agency yellow flood alert for groundwater flooding in the Egham area.
The Thames still has a yellow flood alert between Datchet and Shepperton Green and between Shepperton and East and West Molesey, including Hamm Court, Walton on Thames and Sunbury.
At Thames Ditton Island, the level this morning was 5.46m. The "typical" range for this location near The Swan pub is between 4.46m and 5.50m.
The Met Office said there will be some more rain early tomorrow (Thursday) and maybe on Friday and the outlook is generally unsettled.
