DRIVERS have been ignoring the road-closed signs on the A22 at Whyteleafe.
Dozens of motorists every hour have been choosing to swerve around the signs at the roundabout near the foot of Hillbury Road and enter the A22 where emergency services are battling to save the Kenley water works from flooding and keep water away from homes and properties.
The action of these drivers has been to cause bow waves which could exacerbate the risk of flooding to houses and businesses.
Police have told local people that the road is closed for a reason. If drivers motor over the fire brigade hoses, they risk causing punctures and ruptures to the hoses.
"If there is a burst, the jet of water can flip over a car it is so powerful," one police office at the scene told locals who asked if the road would be reopening soon.
Businesses continue to be affected by the road closures.
BP garage staff have had to throw some food away off its shelves as there have been many less people visiting its M&S shop than normal.
