TWO passengers were seriously injured after smoke warnings forced a plane into an emergency landing at Gatwick Airport.
A Virgin Atlantic flight had left for Orlando's McCoy International Airport when smoke warnings were issued to crew.
In less than half an hour, the plane was forced to return to Gatwick as crew members tried unsuccessfully to resolve the issue with fire extinguishers.
The warnings, which turned out to be spurious, forced the pilot into an emergency landing.
All of the more than 300 passengers and 13 crew disembarked the plane but two people suffered "serious injuries".
A report was published today (Wednesday) into the incident, which took place on April 16 2012.
