SURREY's 4x4 response team had to rescue stranded residents from an old people's home in Egham.
The emergency evacuation by the volunteer organisation came as floods in the town hit critical levels with roads closed and emergency services pushed to the limit.
A severe flood warning is currently in place in the area, which means the chance of loss of life.
But the River Thames has now hit it's highest level and the agency report it is beginning to fall.
A statement on the Environment Agency's website said: "A Severe Flood Warning remains in force as the river will remain very high over the coming days.
"Levels are still higher than those experienced in 2003 on the Thames.
"Widespread property flooding and disruption to local infrastructure is taking place in the Staines area."
Surrey 4x4 response is a volunteer group which offers support to front-line emergency services during times of crisis.
The group helped evacuate residents from the unidentified home in Egham this afternoon.
Member Joe Sardo said on Twitter: "Surrey 4x4 Response volunteers have been working day and night with Fire Crew at Chertsey to help flood victims."
Away from the immediate danger, others took a light-hearted approach to the floods.
James Collins tweeted: "My Girlfriends dad in Egham haha.. What a man lol!!"
