A dog owner has been prosecuted after his animal savaged a sheep on Riddlesown Common. The badly-injured sheep had to be put down after the attack in May last year. Peter Kelly from Purley, owner of the Staffordshire bull terrier which carried out the attack, admitting last Tuesday (21) failing to keep his dog under effective control at Croydon Magistrates Court. He was fined £600, ordered to pay £95 compensation to land-owners the City of London Corporation and £100 costs. Allan Cameron, the corporation's head ranger at Riddlesdown Common, said: "It is vitally important that owners keep their dogs under effective control – especially where livestock are present. "When livestock are attacked we will always prosecute."
