MOTORWAY upgrades could cause havoc for motorists as they face diversions stretching into next month.
A major upgrade of the M25 on the Kent/Surrey border is nearly done, but signage upgrade work between junction 6 (Godstone) and junction 7 (M23) is still ongoing.
The new upgrade is to increase traffic capacity between junction 5 (Sevenoaks) and junction 7 (M23). The work will be carried out in a series of overnight full closures and lane closures.
The following closures will be in place, with fully signed diversions to the next available junction:• Monday (January 13) to Tuesday (January 14) -junction 6 anti-clockwise entry slip road• Wednesday (January 15) - northbound A21 link road to the anti-clockwise M25• Thursday (January 16) to Saturday (January 18) - northbound A21 link road to the clockwise M25• Saturday (January 18)- clockwise M25 closed between junction 6 and 7• Wednesday (January 22) to Sunday (January 26) - clockwise M25 link roads to the northbound and southbound M23• Monday (January 27) to Saturday (February 1) - north and southbound M23 link roads to the anti-clockwise M25
The work will be carried out overnight:
Monday to Thursdays: between 10pm and 5.30am
Fridays: between 11pm and 6am
Saturdays: between 10pm and 6am
Sunday: between 10.30pm and 5.30am
A fully signed diversion will be in place via the A22, A23 and M23 for the junctions 6 to 7 carriageway closure.
John Payne, Highways Agency Project Manager said: "Work to extend the current work beyond junction 6 is progressing well and we are now ready to upgrade the signals between junctions 6 and 7.
"We have already installed new gantries between junctions 5 and 6 and are making good progress commissioning the new technology.
"We have planned these closures to be carried out overnight, when we know traffic flows are lowest, to minimise disruption."
