SAVING the life of a moped crash victim has resulted in Police Community Support Officer Alex Maybin winning a Surrey Chief Constable Commendation.
He came to the rescue of an injured moped rider in Lingfield, plugging a bleed to an artery for 40 minutes before paramedics arrived.
Tandridge Neighbourhood Inspector Angie Austin said: "I am so proud to have someone like Alex in the team – and so is everyone else.
"A relative cradled the victim whilst Alex was doing this and she has been very public in her recognition of what Alex has done.
"Another relative said he saved the victim's life."
Insp Austin added that a few days after the dramatic incident Mr Maybin stopped a vulnerable man, who had climbed across a roadside barrier onto a motorway, from taking his own life.
He was presented with his award by Chief Constable Lynne Owens.
