THREE women had a close shave in Caterham's shopping centre – but it was all for a very good cause.
The trio braved the cold weather to have all their hair shaved off in memory of five-year-old Megan Radley.
The youngster, who lived in Wolfs Wood, Hurst Green, died of neuroblastoma – a form of cancer – in 2007.
Nicole Constable, 32, the partner of Megan's father David, organised the fundraising event on December 21 at Church Walk shopping centre.
They expect to raise more than £1,000 for the Starlight Children's Foundation, which grants wishes for children with serious illnesses. The other two parts of the plucky trio were Sam Bristow, 32, and Kelly Reene, 34, both from Caterham.
Shoppers paid up to £20 each to shave portions of their hair off.
The event also included a raffle, the sale of "reindeer food" to children and carol singing.
The appearance of superheroes including Star Wars stormtroopers and a Mutant Ninja Turtle helped drum up support.
Nicole said: "The children who suffer from cancer and lose their hair as part of their treatment have no choice.
"However, we do – and we chose to lose our hair in Megan's memory to raise awareness and funds for Starlight. It is an amazing charity that makes wishes come true for very poorly children.
"It will all be worth it if we can raise enough to make just one wish come true."
Among those who gave the ladies their support was Tandridge District Council chairman Beverley Connolly.
She said: "It was a really awe-inspiring and humbling event.
"They are very brave women who looked just as beautiful without hair.
"They were holding hands as their hair was being shaved off. It was quite emotional."
