FIREFIGHTERS have been working through the night to rescue people from floods and crashes.
Crews are currently on the scene of a major flood in Subrosa Drive, Merstham. Thirty mobile homes have been flooded and crews have requested the assistance of the service rescue boat based at Walton on Thames. LPG cylinders are reported to be floating in the flood water. Horley's fire engine has responded to the emergency. It was called at 7.09am but took more than half-an-hour to reach the stricken homes due to flooded roads.
Elsewhere in East Surrey, it has been an excpetionally busy night.
Godstone's one fire crew went out ten times overnight.
At 10.10 pm they went to a crash on the A22 in Caterham. One person was injured after a car hit a tree.
At midnight, they were back out on the A22 in South Godstone, where they rescued three more people from flood water.
Reigate's fire crew are also still out, having been called more than half a dozen times overnight. They spent five hours dealing with a flood in Caterham.
